How to choose light switches for bathrooms ?

Lighting is essential in bathrooms. It is key to many of our daily rituals, from the moment we get up to our evening relaxation routines. And within this broad picture, light switches have a discreet yet decisive part to play. If well chosen, they can become an interior design feature in their own right, combining safety, ease of use and visual appeal.
With its brass, glass and porcelain collections, Meljac offers a series of light switches designed to blend seamlessly into the most elegant bathrooms.

For Meljac, light switches tell a story that combines aesthetic appeal, artisanal skill and technical innovation, elevating even the smallest details of any interior.

A decorative accent

Light switches no longer serve a purely technical purpose. In contemporary bathrooms, they are an integral part of the overall design narrative.
A gold plate echoes brass door handles, a polished chrome finish chimes with a gleaming tap set, and a black matte model brings out the modern sophistication of sleek cabinets.
With its wide range of collections and finishes, Meljac’s switches align perfectly with all design styles, from classic to contemporary.

Quality materials for a timeless look

The choice of materials has a direct influence on the atmosphere of a bathroom.
Meljac’s signature solid brass offers timeless warmth and elegance. The Brushed Brass and Golden Brushed Brass finishes subtly capture the light and blend wonderfully with both light marble and darker stone.
Tempered glass brings bright elegance and transparency, reflecting backlit mirrors or tiling. It is also available in different colours for maximum personalisation.
Meljac’s porcelain models add a more romantic, rustic accent. They can be glazed, creating a natural shimmer, or unglazed for a softer matte finish, and even decorated by hand for bespoke projects.

Design, ease of use and technical prowess

As well as the visual dimension, the choice of mechanism also influences the user experience.
Toggle switches add a touch of old-world charm, while push buttons create a more contemporary, minimalist feel. At Meljac, every switch is assembled with clockwork mechanical precision to create a satisfying, durable tactile experience.
Some switches can also incorporate dimmers so that the light level can be adjusted depending on the time of day, or discreet LEDs to indicate whether the light is still on.

Bathroom products compliant with technical standards

In rooms connected to a water supply, electrical safety is a priority. Meljac’s switches comply with applicable standards and must be earthed. The standard protection rating is IP20, with the option of IP21 on request if needed to suit the environment. Solid brass plates are hand treated to produce finishes that are resistant to condensation and humidity.
The installation also depends on the layout of the room. Switches are generally placed at a distance from possible splashes or outside the bathroom. In refurbishment projects, surface-mounted back boxes are an elegant solution if standard flush-mounted back boxes cannot be installed.
